Making Inside As Safe As Outside

Here’s a thought; how often have you stopped to consider that when in the company of others, you are breathing in their exhaled air? Perhaps you are already consciously aware of this, but were you aware that that persons exhaled air, or rather the tiny particles contained in it, can remain suspended in the air in a room for several hours after they have left it?

No, me neither. But research published in both The Lancet and the British Medical Journal last month makes the case for airborne transmission to be the primary route by which we become infected with Covid-19. And the likelihood of this occurring indoors is far, far greater than outdoors, but why?

Not without good reason do we often say, “I’m just going outside for some fresh air”, and research into the transmission of the SARS-Cov-2 virus which produces Covid-19, has uncovered the reason why we use that expression. And it all comes down to incredibly small particles called ions, which are harmless and exist naturally.

Outdoors, the level of ions is normally high, especially in sunlight and near running water, high enough for them to go to work on harmful viruses in the air by using positive and negative ions to effectively render any virus neutral. However, that process doesn’t occur indoors, or at least the level of ions is insufficient to have much effect.

We often refer to this as “sick building syndrome” and I’m sure that every one of us has felt a feeling of tiredness and general lethargy on occasion when in a confined indoor space with many others for any length of time.

However, the good news is that there are now solutions available, which can clean the air we breathe by neutralising airborne viruses, including Covid, long before we breath them in. Constantly working 24/7 to cleanse the air — for all indoor spaces, this capability could become a health and safety requirement, just like heating and lighting.

And the leader in this technology is SafePrem partner, Clenzair, who are providers of solutions for all types and sizes of indoor premises, in order to ionize the air and thus render it safe. They talk of “making inside as safe as outside” because that’s exactly what is happening. It’s a process known as needlepoint bipolar ionisation and it is already widely used across the US in places such as The White House, Google and Harvard University.

And this is not a US or a UK issue, this is a global challenge and needs to be viewed in that context, because none of us are safe until all of us are safe. It took nine months to hit one million deaths globally without the vaccine, but with the vaccine, it took only another four months to hit two million. The figure now stands at over three million deaths worldwide. In other words, the vaccine isn’t the only answer; perhaps our real path to freedom lies with a different kind of technology.

And regardless of the gradual lifting of lockdown restrictions, for us to be able to lift social distancing requirements and the wearing of face coverings, Clenzair provides a route back to life as we once knew it.
